The Beauty Scenario Tag

Hello again!

I've been on a blogging craze this month since I've had a bit of free time, or I'm just really avoiding doing my school assignments. Either way, I haven't done a tag in a little while so I figured I would do the Beauty Scenario Tag. I was tagged by the lovely Jasmina from her blog Pure Beauty. Go check her out! On with the tag :)
1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?
This is such a tough decision because currently my favourite foundation of life is kind of in between drugstore and high end. It is the EX1 Invisiwear foundation that is sold online. But if I had to choose one drugstore and one high end I would choose the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation, and the Garnier BB Cream in Medium/Dark the matte version. Those are my faves!

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?
I personally am not one for confrontation. Especially with someone I just met, so I would not tell the interviewer about her lipstick. I wouldn't want her to take it personally or be offended and because of that not hire me. So I would just let it slide without saying anything.

3. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair or makeup differently?
Omgosh I would do everything differently! I would wrap my scarf differently so I wouldn't get used to the dumb way I wrap it now. I would also invest in a primer. I used to wear Avon powder foundation which was nice and light with some blush and that was it. I never wore mascara or any lip products. So I would make myself wear mascara and lip balm at least.

4. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length pixie lott hair cut but they hear wrong and a give you a pixie cut instead. What do you do?
a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mom and cry hysterically
b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward
c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund.
Probably C. This is the best part of being a hijabi, is that even if things go wrong at the hairdresser I can just cover it up and no one has to see it! lol but no actually I would freak out. Obviously this is not the most realistic scenario since you would typically notice if the hairdresser was about to chop off that much of your hair. But if it did I would demand a refund and I would be pretty upset.

5. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have one hour to pack, which "Do it All" palette do you pack in your makeup bag?
I would either pack my palette of my favourite Makeup Geek shadows or my Chocolate Bar palette! Its the best!

6. Your house has been robbed, don't worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. Whats the product you really hope is safe?
Oh God, I would die if this actually happened. I guess I would really hate if they took all my limited edition makeup because that stuff is hard to track down. Ughh makeup is so expensive, this would kill me if it happened.

7. Your friend borrows makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you:
a) Pretend you haven't noticed
b) Ask them to re-purchase it
c) Secretely do it back to their makeup
None of the above. First of all I don't let anyone borrow makeup. If I give someone makeup, they are keeping it because I think for hygenic purposes it would be kinda gross. But say this actually happened, my friends would probably buy me a new one anyway because they are nice that way and if they destroyed it they wouldn't return it that way. But if they didn't I wouldn't say anything, but I'd be pretty upset.

I'm not going to nominate specific people but I tag all of you to do this tag!

Makeup Review: Jaclyn Hill Favorites Palette

Hello Lovelies!

MY PALETTE IS FINALLY HERE!! I don't even wanna tell you guys how long I sat on my computer refreshing my browser to buy this palette. If Kim Kardashian thinks she broke the internet, she didn't because Jaclyn freaking Hill did! The website was down for 2 days and it was very stressful for everyone! This palette is sold out now but it will be coming back in February so keep an eye out on Morphe's website if you want it!Anyway on with the review!
So first thing you see when you open the box is Jaclyn's gorgeous face! I love the outer box of the palette, its so cute! It was packaged really well by the way! Very secure, with padding and everything!
The actual case looks like the rest of Morphe's eyeshadows cases. It isn't amazing quality but for the price I paid I wasn't expecting amazing packaging. Either way the shadows are amazing and this palette retails for only $27.99.
As you can see the shades are very warm which is right up my alley! I love these shadows so much. Especially the matte shades considering matte shadows are very hard to formulate. For the price of this palette it really is incredible how pigmented and buttery the shadows are. They also don't create a lot of fallout.
*Picture above is in natural lighting*
The shadows don't have names so I just swatched each row in order. So this is the top row. I like the shimmer shades although I've definitely tried better. I'm more impressed with the mattes. When using them, they blend really well!
I love all of the shades so much! I feel like this palette is going to be my best friend this year and I can't wait to create all sorts of looks with it!

Let me know if you got your hands on this or if you want to!

Product Review: MUJI Drawers

Hello again!
I have been wanting to amp up the look of my vanity and makeup storage. So I looked all over the place; online and in stores to try to find acrylic makeup organization drawers. The cheapest I could find while maintaining good quality is by the company called Muji. I have seen this company name floating around the youtube beauty sphere and I checked them out and was very intrigued. They are very inexpensive compared to Cosmocube. I bought 3 pieces and to get to the point, I LOVE them!!
This piece is the Large 2-drawer acrylic drawers. You can get it here. The website has all the details about sizing, etc. These drawers fit things like compacts from MAC and they fit the paint pots. They also fit most foundation bottles like MUFE HD foundation, EX1 Invisiwear, etc. They fit some palettes stacked like the Naked palettes and the Lorac Palettes. They are great and my makeup fits great in them!
You can stack the compacts as well, as seen below.
This next one above is the acrylic 2 drawer with lid. So as you can see the top part is a lid which is great for easy access and also if something is too big, it will still fit with the lid slightly lifted on top. The link with measurments is here. It fits the same things the first one fits, the only difference is the lid part.
This piece is the 5 drawer acrylic. This drawer is my favourite despite the fact that it doesnt fit a lot of things. Link is here. So this five drawer piece is nice but the drawers depth is quite small. It doesn't fit things like Mac Paint Pots, Maybelline Colour Tattoos, or compacts stacked (as seen blow). It does fit things like Colour Pop shadows, Mac powder foundations, blushes and bronzer compacts, and basically all lipsticks and lipglosses if you choose to store them that way. I have some pictures to shown below as well to show what kind of things fit in there.
These kinds of compacts all fit perfectly in these five drawers. I didn't keep them this way but I just wanted to show what fits for the sake of the review.
This is what they look like stacked if you choose to store them this way!
My general thoughts are basically that I love them!! I will definitely be purchasing more in the future. They are great products and the quality is phenominal for their price. The drawers are very smooth and don't skip like cheap plastic drawers do. Shipping is a little pricey but they do have stores you can visit, you don't have to shop online.

If you guys want to see a vanity tour/makeup storage post to show how I store all my makeup and how I use these babies then let me know!

How Birth Control Affected My Life

Hello lovely readers!
Today I have quite the topic to discuss but it has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to vent about it. This post may be a bit TMI so if you're not into it, just don't read. Who knows, maybe someone can benefit from this.

So just a brief run down for anyone who doesn't know how birth control works; birth control is a contraceptive that comes in multiple forms, most commonly in a pill form and it's main purpose or function is to prevent pregnancy. It has other functions as well such as period regulation and acne prevention.

I got married in October of 2013 and I wasn't planning on having children for a while so I started taking the pill in September. I was taking the brand Alesse and I took it for six months. The first major thing that drastically affected my life was the major weight gain. Based on what I'm used to my weight fluctuates up or down 5 pounds. I have never in my life gained such a substantial amount of weight in such a short period of time. In those 6 months, my weight jumped drastically (to me at least). I even started going to the gym regularly and changed my eating habits to make them better. I tried smaller portions and healthier options. Had I not been on birth control I would have lost so much weight, but since I was on birth control nothing happened. In fact it got worse.

My attitude was awful, I was angry all the time. I was very negative, depressed and just in a bad place. So I talked to my doctor and she put me on a new pill called Tricylcon Lo. I continued to take this up until last month and since I have been on it things have improved but they still weren't the best. My weight hasn't changed much since I was on Alesse, hasn't gone up or down. My attitude has improved but still not how I was before taking the pill. I still felt like I was super moody.

The worst part of it all is that I had a severe craving for chocolate 24/7. I have always been a chocoholic and usually I get a high craving for it before my period. I didn't desperately need to have chocolate everyday. But since I was on birth control, and they mess with your hormones, it made it so that I felt I was about to get my period for the whole month long. So I needed chocolate EVERYDAY! It's like being addicted to drugs or something! Its ridiculous!

As of the beginning of the new year I have officially stopped birth control. I know now I am more susceptible to get pregnant but I actually want a baby and if it happens then its meant to be. Already I can feel my attitude changing and my chocolate cravings are less. I went three days without having any and I lived, lool! I feel like I can control my anger when arguing with someone or when I get upset about something. In general I can already see a bit of change. As for my weight, I'm starting to work out and try to knock all this weight off. I know when people see me it doesn't look like I've gained a lot of weight because I'm tall, but I can tell and I want it gone! I feel like I'm renting this crappy body and I want my old one back. Its not even just about the weight its about my health in general.

Well that's all I got, haha. I just really wanted to talk about this because I feel like for the past year and a bit birth control has ruined my life. Everyone told me stop taking it but I really didn't want to have children and it was the easiest method of birth control so I didn't listen. I hope that my life improves after stopping them because I really couldn't stand myself anymore. Sorry if this was a bit much but I wanted to vent and hopefully anyone that is looking to start taking birth control can read this and either try another method or know what to expect. This was my experience but it could be different than someone else's. All in all if your doctor ever recommends taking Alesse, just beware of the possible side effects.

Makeup Dupe: Nars Audacious Lipstick in Fanny

Hello ladies!
Today I have a dupe for all of you and its a good one! As I'm sure most of you know, the company NARS is a very expensive brand. They recently came out with a new lipstick line called the Nars Audacious Lipsticks and they are CAD$37 a pop. Almost $40 with tax for a lipstick, crazy huh! I watched review after review of them and they seemed amazing. No one ever had any complaints in fact mostly everyone says its the best lipstick formula EVER! So I waited for the VIB rouge sale at Sephora and I got one. I got the shade Fanny.
I felt awful but I had to try it. It was amazing. I almost hate myself for trying it because I want another one but they are soo expensive I couldn't bring myself to spend that much again.
Either way, I was swatching all my lipsticks the other day and I noticed that this Nars lipstick looked incredibly similar to another lipstick I have from Wet n' Wild called Sugar Plum Fairy. I couldn't believe it at first but after swatching them together and wear them both on my lips (one lipstick on each half of my lips) I couldn't believe it. They were an exact match! And the best part is that the Wet n' Wild lipstick was only $2. Now this is what I call a dupe!
So obviously the Nars packaging is amazing and no one near comparison with the Wet n' Wild lipstick packaging. The Nars packaging is metal and magnetic.
I wore them out like this and you would never be able to tell there is difference in colour or finish. I would say they are both a satin finish. They dry to a semi-matte finish and they last so long on the lips! The Wet n' Wild actually lasted a little longer than the Nars lipstick which I thought was interesting. The Wet n' Wild lipstick does not apply as smoothly as the Nars lipstick but it still applies great. They are both really great lipsticks!
Another good dupe for the Nars lipstick is Rebel from Mac. The main difference you'll find is the finish but I personally would just go with the Wet n' Wild lipstick. I am so impressed with their lipsticks and I don't think I'll ever waste my money on Nars lipsticks just because I can achieve the same look and longevity with a much cheaper option.

Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know if you've tried any of these before and what you think!

My Top Favourite Eye Brushes

Hello people!
I wanted to get this post out because I've had a few people in person and online ask me about my favourite makeup brushes I use so I wanted to write about them. I am going to split this into two posts, one for eye brushes and the other for face brushes. This post is all about my favourite eye brushes. I truly believe that you do not need to pay $30 for a makeup brush for it to be good quality. In fact I have some great drugstore/cheap online alternatives that are AMAZING quality, I promise! I will link everything under each picture.
Alrighty! So here are my main seven holy grail eye shadow brushes! I love them to bits and I use them almost everyday. You don't need all of them to achieve a great eye shadow look but these are the ones I use to achieve the look that I want. I'll discuss each one further and let you know the main essentials.
This brush is everything! It is a dupe for the infamous MAC 217. I have tried both and I honestly genuinly love this one more! I have three of these, I'm obsessed! This brush is from Coastal Scents. I have purchased several brushes from this website and I love all of them so much. This brush blends colours so well, especially when adding a dark colour to the crease or outer corner. It blends shadows together like a dream and it is an essential that I use everytime I wear eye shadow. The best part is that its ony five bucks! You can buy it here.
I use this dense small crease brush not in my crease but actually to buff and blend in concealer or paint pots. I personally use it for my MAC paint pot in soft ochre. It applies cream products so opaque and even. This brush is part of a Real Techniques brush set. Real Techniques is one of my absolute favourite makeup brush brands ever. They are amazing and super affordable. They have great value sets that you can find at Wal-mart (and Superstore in Canada). Their brushes are synthetic and excellent quality. They don't shed and they clean and dry so well. You can't get this brush individually unfortunately but the set is worth is either way. Here is the link.
This brush changed my life! Lol I know I'm dramatic but seriously it changed my makeup game! I never understood how a brush thats so fluffy with long bristles could apply product to the lids well but it totally does! This brush blends transition colours into the crease flawlessly! You need this in your life, you will never have a harsh line again after this! Link is here.
Ok, I know I said these brushes would be affordable but I happened to have this and I use for filling in sparce spots in my brows or to sharpen a winged eye liner look. This brush has millions of dupes for cheap and so I will link some! This brush was limited edition so it's no longer available, I believe..  Either way it's important to have a brush with a sharp edge like this to achieve certain looks. Cheaper alternatives are: here, here and here.
This brush is an essential. Its a flat shader brush that is perfect for packing on shadows to the lid. It's also synthetic which is perfect because that means it applies cream eyeshadows seamlessly to the lids as well. I love wetting it and using it for pigments. Its a great brush that you need in your lives! Here is the link!
This is my current favourite eye liner brush. I love this brush with gel liners. Its so dense and the tip is so pointed that it helps me achieve an amazing wing with one swipe! It makes gel liner application a breeze! Love it! Link here
This brush is good to have but not extremely necessary. It's used more for precise application of shade in the crease. It blends a little but I mainly use it to apply the shadow in the crease more precisely and then I go in with my Coastal scents pro buffing BR-250 brush to blend everything for a softer look. I love this brush either way and I use it quite a bit! Here is it's link.
Well that is all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed the read and hopefully this helps some of you guys find the right eye brushes for a great price! Let me know if you've tried any of these!

Makeup Review: Makeup Forever Studio Case

Hello again! I am going to have so many reviews up this month so brace yourselves! lol anyway on with the review.

Near the end of December of last year Sephora was offering 20% off extra on their sale items. So as you can imagine I went a little crazy and bought some more things I didn't need. I had come across this Makeup Forever Studio Case before online and it was a little too pricey before so I didn't give it much thought. But then it went on sale and had an additional 20% off so I figured why not see what these shadows are all about.
Here is the packaging. It's too small and chunky to store anywhere neatly. I'm not a big fan honestly.
The eye shadows are quite small. They are about the size of a nickel. Smaller than MAC or makeup geek shadow pans.
The packaging bothers me to be honest because it takes up so much space for no reason. They have the eyeshadows categorized in 4 columns: Natural, Smoky, Bold and Chic. I like the colours and I think they work well together. I love the pops of colour but I also like the fact that there are neutrals and mattes to tone them down in an eyeshadow look. You don't need another palette to complete a look because there are basics in this one.
Overall I am not too impressed by this palette/case. I have swatched the makeup forever artist shadows and these shadows are not on par with them at all. In order to even get these shadows to show up like they do in the swatches I had to layer them on. The eye liner is great and the shadow Chic ME-828 is really the only shadow that swatched well with one try. I have dont some eye looks with this palette and they blend well but the bold shades don't show up as well as I'd like them to.
Im glad I got this palette on sale because if I hadn't I definitely would have returned it.

These are just my opinions after all. Let me know if you've tried this and what you think!

Makeup Review: Liquid Lipsticks (Lime Crime, Maybelline, Kat Von D

Hello Ladies!

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and are settling in 2015 well! I am so excited to blog this year and I am starting 2015 off with a good one! I have discovered a hidden gem at the drugstore (at least a new discovery to me). The latest obsession of everyone on social media lately has been matte lipsticks, specifically the liquid to matte lipsticks. The types of lipsticks apply like a lipgloss with a doe foot applicator usually and once they set, they turn into a super matte non-transferable lip colour. The point is that they are budge proof and smudge proof.

Some of the main brands that are known for having these types of liquid to matte lipstics are brands such as Lime Crime, Girlactik, Dose of Colors, Kat Von D, Stila, etc. I have tried a few of these brands and the lipsticks are really great! I have been all about the matte vampy lip this fall and winter and the best part about wearing a vampy lip is knowing it is not going to budge. They don't tranfer whatsoever and you can eat and drink without worrying about constantly touching up.

Now my main purpose for this blog post is to show everyone a DRUGSTORE alternative to these liquid to matte lipsticks! These lipsticks are commonly known for the websites I mentioned above and they are not cheap. They all start at $16+ and you have to pay shipping because some are only available online. I am fine with ordering online because I prefer it to shopping in stores but for those who want a cheaper alternative and don't want to buy these lippies online, I have found it at the drugstore. It is the Maybelline Super Stay 24-hour wear lipstick.
From left to right: Kat Von D's Lolita (this shade has litterally been sold out most of the year! Its a gorgeous shade), Maybelline's Constantly Cabernet, Lime Crime's Wicked.
The above swatches are freshly applied, they are still wet here.
Here is what they look like when they dry matte.

Brief review: Honestly the Maybelline one is good and its a good alternative for someone who does not want to order the more expensive ones online. I'm always for drugstore if they have what I want, especially a formula dupe for a lipstick like this. The one problem that sucks about this product: it's a bitch to get off your lips. Pardon my language but omg when they say 24-hour wear they are not joking. This lipstick only comes off with oil or a hardcore makeup remover. The other brands are a lot more moisurizing and come off much easier. In my opinion I prefer Lime Crime and Kat Von D and will continue to purchase them for the sole purpose that they are easy to take off. But the Maybelline ones are worth trying and the colours they have are super gorgeous. On the bright side you don't have to worry about touching up at all!

Hope you enjoyed the read! Let me know if you have tried any of these before!
